Coparenting Facilitation
Coparenting Facilitation is a targeted, structured, solution focused intervention that address specific issues related to collaboratively parenting during and after separation or divorce. Coparenting Facilitation is an agenda-driven court-informed process. It is not individual therapy or couples therapy. It may be done by meeting with coparents separately or together.
Purpose of coparenting facilitation
- Create consist structures and routines between the homes;
- Increase child(ren)’s post separation/divorce adjustment;
- Establish functional child-centered communication between the parents
- Help the parents realign and create a “business-like” relationship.
Coparenting Facilitation candidates
Coparents with the following characteristics may benefit from coparenting counseling:
- Difficulty communicating about basic child-related issues;
- Trouble navigating scheduling changes;
- Power struggles regarding exchanging child-related items;
- Differing view on parenting practices and philosophies
Coparenting Facilitation is recommended for coparents with mild to moderate conflict. Coparents with moderate to severe conflict may be more appropriate for Parenting Coordination. More information about this intervention can be found here.
